Washington State University’s College of Nursing and College of Veterinary Medicine once again joined forces for their annual Healthy People + Healthy Pets event, held this year on April 15 at the WSU Spokane Campus. The event, dedicated to providing free health care services , catered to individuals living in shelters, transitional housing, and those currently unhoused, along with their pets.

Volunteers from both colleges provided essential health services. The pop-up clinic buzzed with activity, emphasizing the community’s ongoing need for such services.

The final tallies reflect the impact of the event:

  • Number of People Served: 40
  • Number of Dogs Cared For: 36
  • Number of Cats Cared For: 14

In addition to these services, the health care team conducted numerous blood pressure and blood sugar checks for the human attendees. Notably, the event also facilitated the administration of vaccines, highlighting the clinic’s role in preventive health care.

The event not only showcased the dedication of WSU’s students and faculty in serving their community but also reinforced the importance of integrated health services for both people and pets, who often represent a critical source of support and companionship for vulnerable populations.
