Two New DEI Advocates Join WSU College of Nursing

Alan Galvez and Heather Kriss featured as WSU College of Nursing DEI Advocates for October 2023.

The Washington State University College of Nursing is pleased to announce the appointment of two dedicated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Advocates who will play instrumental roles in fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment within the College. Heather Kriss and Alan Galvez, both esteemed members of the staff, bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to their new roles.

Heather Kriss, who uses she/her pronouns, has demonstrated her commitment to DEI through her extensive educational background and proactive involvement in promoting equity. With a total of 42.5 continuing education hours, Kriss recently completed the Mindfulness Based Anti-Racism program as well as the WSU Community & Equity Certificate program for faculty and staff.

Kriss’ dedication to fostering inclusivity goes beyond her educational accomplishments. She has actively engaged with the WSU community, notably hosting a table at the WSU Tri-Cities Interfaith event, where she provided insights into Judaism and dispelled myths and misunderstandings. Her positive impact has resonated with students and colleagues alike.

Alan Galvez, who uses he/him pronouns, has also made significant contributions to DEI efforts within the College of Nursing. With a total of 30+ continuing education hours, Galvez’s commitment to DEI is reflected in his academic pursuits. Galvez has pursued a PhD program that consistently integrated DEI components into its curriculum, reinforcing his dedication to fostering equity within higher education.

Galvez’s role extends beyond academia, as he coordinates the Peer Mentor Program within the College of Nursing. He ensures that peer mentors are equipped to serve all students effectively by providing them with DEI training during their orientation.
