Spectacular Celebration of Giving

WSU College of Nursing celebrated its annual Celebration of Giving event on Friday, April 15, 2023. The event, which was held virtually, was attended by students, faculty, staff, and community partners of the College.

The event began with a greeting from Dean Mary Koithan, PhD, RN, CNS-BC, FAAN, the ninth leader of the WSU College of Nursing in its more than 50-year history. She welcomed everyone and thanked them for their support of the College.

The keynote speaker was Rebecca Doughty, MN, RN, CSRM, the Executive Director of School Support Services at Spokane Public Schools. Ms. Doughty oversees multiple departments including the school nursing program. She shared her insights on the importance of nursing in schools and how the nursing profession is evolving to meet the changing needs of our communities.

Graduate speaker Robert Jackson, BSN, RN, a DNP-FNP student, shared his experience at the College of Nursing and how the scholarship he received has impacted his education and future career. Undergraduate speaker Jasmine Tonasket, a BSN student, also shared her experience and gratitude for the scholarship she received.

The highlight of the event was the announcement of the total scholarship awards for academic year 2022-2023, which was an impressive $420,141. This is a testament to the generosity of the donors who support the College of Nursing and its students.

Overall, the Celebration of Giving event was a success, and everyone who attended left feeling inspired and motivated to continue supporting the next generation of nurses.
