Dr. Denise Smart Receives YWCA’s 2024 Award for Science and Health Education Contributions

Congratulations to Dr. Denise Smart for being awarded the YWCA 2024 Women of Achievement Award for Science, Technology, & Environment. Dr. Smart is an academic nurse scientist with a varied career as a registered nurse, educator, and military public health officer. She served over 22 years in the military, earning Lieutenant Colonel with the 141st Medical Group in Fairchild, WA, and has been licensed for over 45 years as a registered nurse. 

Dr. Smart’s contributions as a nurse, educator, and mentor at Washington State University have been invaluable. Her work, particularly in the study of compassion fatigue, has earned her recognition worldwide. Her passion for empowering nurses in research and academia has made significant strides in improving healthcare delivery. We applaud Dr. Smart’s tireless dedication to her profession and the profound impact she has had on her students and the broader community.
