Connie Kim Yen Nguyen-Truong, PhD, RN, ANEF, FAAN, is a tenured Associate Professor with 25 years of combined expertise as a community-based participatory/participatory action/community-engaged research and research and engagement educational curricular and model approaches nurse scientist; didactic and clinical nursing education; clinical practice in intermediate care, progressive care, and acute care/medical-surgical; and public health/population health/community health nursing. Dr. Nguyen-Truong’s most significant nurse scientist leadership contributions are innovative disaggregated data science to improve optimal health and well-being for all across the lifespan and with positively impactful uptake and reach of research and scholarly work at  state/regional/national/international levels. This includes innovative brokering and nurturing connection and engagement among cross-sectoral, multidisciplinary partnerships through referred to collectively as CBPR.

Research specialty areas include: nursing researchers and scholars partnering/collaborating across sectors and disciplines with communities, health care, and public health and services organizations, and opportunities and engagement regarding parenting/caregiving, families, older adults, early and learning and development, leadership, influence of contexts on health-assistive and technology, and screening, prevention, and management.

She mentors numerous graduate student scholars, including in nursing and prevention science and undergraduate and junior faculty then guided mid-career faculty on tenure-track and career track on CBPR and translation, including on her grant funded research and scholarship. She also guides organizational partner leaders and community health workers. Dr. Nguyen-Truong centers creative humanizing mentoring/learning experiential pathways. An exemplar impact is the shifting of a paradigm and research evidence that resulted in transformative health and services organizational infrastructure systems and policy changes with many organizations.

Dr. Nguyen-Truong’s philosophy of teaching and learning includes embracing various ways of knowing and learning by honoring, navigating, and exploring alongside students/learners as a journey and transformative connection with sciences and artistic modalities. She teaches in the PhD, DNP, MN, and RN-BSN programs.

Teaching specialty areas include: philosophy of nursing, population health including public health and community health, toward evidence-informed solutions, informatics, evidence-based practice, scientific inquiry, and nursing education and application.

She has taught fundamentals in nursing, acute complex care, and integrated care in the pre-licensure BS/BSN and accelerated programs at Oregon Health & Science University and Linfield College and in the Associate of Applied Science to BS program at OHSU.
