Frequently Asked Questions

What will a coaching session look like?

A session will look different for each student and be personalized based on your needs and wants. Coaches will get to know you and what strategies you currently employ to reach your academic goals. We will ask questions and find ways to help support you in and out of the classroom. Our hope is to collaborate with you so that your voice and input on how to achieve success is combined with our expertise in research-backed strategies and resources. Some methods and strategies may not work for you, that’s okay! We can meet again, brainstorm new strategies, and ultimately find what works best for you.

Do I need to bring anything to the session?

Bring yourself and a way to document any notes. If you have any specific questions, write them down beforehand and bring them to the meeting so we can make the most of our time together. Remember, you are the captain of the ship. Whatever you’d like to utilize in a meeting, just let us know!

How often can I meet with a coach?

As often as you’d like! We encourage multiple meetings so we can help you stay on track with goals and strategies you’re using to support your goals. As you meet with us through the semester, we may occasionally check in on you to see how you are doing and how we can better support you.

What topics can I discuss with a coach?

Any topic related to your academics at WSU and ways to support your health and wellness. Typically, coaches will help students with study skills, test-prep, motivation, goal setting, learning strategies, and note-taking methods. However, do not feel like you must have a hard-hitting topic to bring to the meeting. We are open to any conversation that will help you succeed as a student and as a person.

Can a coach tutor me in my coursework?

Coaches provide holistic support of your progress and navigation through the nursing program.  While we do not provide tutoring services for specific concepts or topics, we are still aware of the curriculum and can support your nursing journey with learning strategies, time management, improved retention techniques, test-taking skills, goal setting, health and wellness, and so much more.

Can a coach advise me on my class schedule, degree plan, and/or enrollment?

While we are an integral part of your academic journey, it is the role of the Academic Advisor to help you with enrollment, course planning, and other College of Nursing degree requirements.  Coaches focus on supporting academic skills, behaviors, and habits that lead to successfully completing your nursing program.

What does scheduling time with a coach look like?

You can schedule an appointment with us directly using the links on our webpage, the QR codes on our marketing around the college, or visiting us in our office if we are available. If you scheduled an appointment and need to cancel, just let us know via email or phone call. You can reschedule for another time and day based on our calendars.
