The 2025 Celebration of Giving at Washington State University College of Nursing honored the donors, students, alumni, faculty, and staff who power the college’s mission. Attendees heard moving remarks from Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) student Kleopatra Deltchev, ’25 and PhD graduate Dr. Christi Brumley ’24, both of whom shared how philanthropy has directly shaped their academic and professional paths. Deltchev described her journey from aspiring medical student to passionate nurse, crediting scholarships for enabling her to thrive without the constant stress of financial hardship.
You are making a lasting impact on the next generation of nurses… I can continue to focus on my self-care, my education, and graduating in May—all because of you.
Kleopatra Deltchev ’25, BSN Student
Dr. Brumley, reflected on her career from Navy nurse to educator and researcher, highlighting how donor support made her PhD studies—and her current research on perinatal substance use—possible.
Dean Mary Koithan spoke about the deep personal value of giving and the college’s unwavering focus on student success, academic quality, and community impact.

Dean Mary Koithan closed the event with a look at the college’s momentum: over $310,000 in scholarships awarded this academic year, new partnerships like the Logan School clinic, and continued investment in hands-on learning and caring science.
More than ever, it is critical that we take care of each other and prioritize the health, well-being, and development of our students, faculty, and staff while continuing to serve the unmet health care needs in our community.
Dean Mary Koithan
Giving to nursing is giving to the future of health care, to social mobility, and to community well-being. The celebration concluded with refreshments, a poster display from the Honors Presentation Symposium, and a demonstration of a new 3D printer purchased through donor gifts.
