Whether you choose a PhD in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Master of Nursing (MN), or graduate certificate, most of your coursework will be online. We also offer a range of scholarships and financial assistance programs to help you pay for your graduate studies. 

The Washington State University College of Nursing has joined the Western Regional Graduate Program. If you’re a resident of 16 western states or territories and a full-time student, you can pursue your PhD, DNP or Master of Nursing-Population Health at WSU and pay the in-state tuition rate – a savings of thousands of dollars per semester.

PhD in Nursing

The program emphasizes conducting innovative research to contribute to nursing science and health care. Students will be part of a close-knit cohort, fostering supportive relationships with peers and faculty. The faculty and staff are dedicated to student success and provide regular research and academic mentoring to help students establish themselves as nurse scientists. Many students receive funding through research/teaching assistantships, scholarships, or Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program awards.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The WSU College of Nursing offers four areas of study for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): prepares students for a career in primary care and independent practice in certain states
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practioner (PMHNP): training students to provide comprehensive psychiatric and mental health services, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Post-Master’s General (PMG): aimed at advancing the area of specialty for nurses who already hold a master’s degree or adding new specialties like family nurse practitioner, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, or population health nurse

Master of Nursing (MN)

The Master of Nursing Population Health (MN PH) is a specialized degree aimed at training advanced practice nurses to deliver direct care to individuals, oversee health care for families, groups, and populations, assume administrative roles in health care institutions, participate as faculty members in nursing programs, shape health policies, and apply research findings to enhance their expertise in practice.

Graduate Certificates

Nursing offers diverse graduate certificate programs to enhance the expertise of nurses in specific areas. The Nurse Educator certificate focuses on teaching and learning with distance-friendly pedagogy. The Public Health certificate addresses the growing demand for public health professionals, preparing students to lead population-based health care. The Nursing Leadership certificate equips nurse administrators with advanced skills in organizational leadership and quality management. All programs employ a mix of online and face-to-face delivery, providing accessible education to meet the diverse needs of nurses seeking to advance their careers.
