About Dr. Brenda Senger, PhD, RN

Dr. Brenda Senger, PhD, RNAreas of expertise: Program/clinical coordination, high-fidelity patient simulation, dedicated education units, medical/surgical nursing, pathophysiology, pharmacology, evidence-based practice, creative learning strategies, and mitochondrial disease.

Dr. Brenda Senger PhD, RN is an Associate Professor of Nursing in the School of Health Science at Gonzaga University. This is Brenda’s 18th year teaching at Gonzaga. Brenda is currently the program director for the Doctor in Nursing Practice, Nursing Leadership in Healthcare, and RN-MSN programs. She has chaired several student doctoral scholarly projects. Brenda received her doctoral degree in nursing research from Washington State University and master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. She has been a licensed registered nurse for 38 years. Brenda’s research of the impact of mitochondrial disease on families has provided her with regional and national speaking opportunities about rare genetic diseases. Her current research and scholarship in rural nursing education, clinical practice quality improvement, evidence-based practice and doctoral education has led to several journal publications.

Brenda is currently working with the Washington Center for Nursing Education to bring distant nursing education to remote and rural areas in Washington State. She currently lives in Spokane WA, with her husband. She is inspired by her 4 adult children and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
