Climb for Care 2023 – climbing 50 peaks in 2023!

Thank you for your support!

Erin “The Cougar Climber” Roach is resting his feet from all that hiking and is gracious for everyone’s encouragement and support during his climbing season!

To help combat the national nursing shortage Erin Roach, ’86 BA Business Administration, is embarking on an unusual fundraiser called “Climb for Care 2023.”

Roach will attempt to hike 50 peaks and mountains in Washington and neighboring states in 38 nonconsecutive days during the Spring and Summer of 2023.

His backcountry scrambles will feature summit attempts in the Olympics, North, South and Central Cascades, Mount Rainier regions, and Salt Lake, Utah area.

These climbs are also being done to honor Erin’s wife, a retired nurse who practiced for 38 years. All funds raised will be used for nursing scholarships for the WSU College of Nursing.

Roach is looking for individuals, organizations and WSU alumni to donate to one of two funds for nursing scholarships, with the goal of raising $50,000. Donors and others will be able to follow his progress toward 50 climbs in 38 days on social media.

Choose from the following funds to donate to help reach Roach’s goal:

Student Success Fund

The College of Nursing Student Success Fund supports the expansion and enhancement of the Center for Student Excellence and provides essential nursing education tools to students.

Center for Experiential Learning

Health care education is an increasingly high-tech environment. To stay relevant, the College of Nursing would like to include augmented reality, virtual reality and telehealth in its curriculum. A longtime leader in simulation, the college would like to expand those offerings to include a mock multi-unit ICU and a home-health apartment setting.

General Scholarship Fund

The General Scholarship Fund for WSU College of Nursing provides financial assistance to students pursuing nursing education at the university. The fund aims to support and encourage students who have demonstrated academic excellence and financial need.
