Heather Striker, MSN, RN, a faculty member at the Washington State University College of Nursing in Spokane, has been named a DAISY Award recipient in recognition of her outstanding commitment to nursing education.
Striker was nominated by multiple students who described her as compassionate, attentive, and deeply dedicated to her students’ success. She teaches sensitive topics such as mental health with care and insight, ensuring a supportive learning environment that reduces stigma and promotes understanding.
One student shared, “She actively listened to my concerns and helped me find resources. Her presentations not only teach the material, they also prepare us for the real challenges we’ll face as nurses.”
Students also praised her clinical teaching style and one-on-one support. “She helped me understand what I got wrong on an exam and made a plan so I could succeed,” wrote another student. “She truly wants her students to be their best selves.”
