Supporting Planetary Health on Earth Day

Spring on the WSU Spokane Campus, featuring the College of Nursing building.

Earth Day is more than a celebration—it’s a reminder that health care must play a role in environmental sustainability. At the WSU College of Nursing, we’re contributing through the Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC), a student-led effort to embed planetary health into nursing education.

By participating in the PHRC, WSU nursing students and faculty are advancing sustainability in coursework, research, and campus practices. Our efforts reflect a broader commitment to making health care part of the solution to climate change—not a contributor.

Dr. Elizabeth Schenk, assistant research professor at WSU and Chief Environmental Stewardship Officer at Providence, leads much of this work. Schenk willl be presenting Planetary Health: Solutions for Health Care on Wednesday, April 30 from 4–6 p.m. at Seattle University. Her talk will highlight how health care professionals can drive change in a field responsible for 8.5% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.

Celebrate Earth Day by learning more, taking action, and getting involved:
