Your Role and Impact

Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, you will serve as a primary medical provider. You will diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions within your scope of practice. Your role is vital to expanding care access and building long-term patient trust during this exciting growth phase.

INTRODUCTION:

Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, The Family Nurse Practitioner serves as a medical provider at the David C. Wynecoop Memorial Health Center and will provide care for acute and chronic medical conditions within their scope of practice.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides medical screenings, evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of health problems. Performs routine minor outpatient surgeries and procedures.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
  • Facilitates staff, patient, and family decision making by providing educational tools.
  • Performs the required medical treatment on patients in an efficient, effective, and professional manner.
  • Provides emergency medical care when necessary.
  • Coordinates referral services with appropriate staff.
  • Obtains and documents medical history of each patient, including patient’s chief complaint, present condition, patient’s individual history, and family history.
  • Provides positive participation in committees, as assigned.
  • Assists with safety emergency preparedness and disaster planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Demonstrated competency dealing with all age groups including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Independent, mature judgment is required in dealing with individual patients, treatment plans, and referral of complex cases.
  • Ability to examine, diagnose, and provide medical treatment, seeking consultation as needed.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relations with the Clinic staff, Tribal members and their families, as well as outside health professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and relate to Tribal and community members, staff, and federal, state, and local health agencies.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care, including EKG machine, PFT machine, AED, and Nebulizer.
  • Ability to operate an electronic health records system and/or electronic patient management system.

  • Possess awareness and sensitivity of Indian traditions, customs, and socioeconomic needs and ability to work effectively with diverse cultures.
  • Knowledge of regulations on the confidentiality of medical records and Personal Health
  • Information in alignment with HIPAA standards.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity under constant pressure and crisis situations.
  • Ability to make decisions independently in accordance with established medical protocol, standing orders, and policy and procedures.
  • Exhibit a level of computer literacy sufficient to use software such as word processing,
    spreadsheets, and databases to produce correspondence, documents, and reports.
  • Ability to read and understand complex documents and manuals, as well as the ability to write such documents for use by others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires a Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctoral degree in Nursing (DNP) from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain appropriated Board certification and licensure with the State of Washington.
  • At least one (1) years of experience as Nurse Practitioner in outpatient setting.
  • Must have or be able to obtain proper licensure and registration for the prescription and dispensing of narcotics and controlled drugs.
  • ACLS certification required or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Must be eligible for malpractice insurance.
  • Current and valid Washington State driver’s license in good standing with no insurability issues as determined by the Tribe’s insurance carrier is required.
  • Required to accept the responsibility of a mandatory reporter of abuse and neglect of infants and children, people who are elderly or dependent, individuals with mental illness or development disabilities or residents of nursing homes and other health care facilities.
  • This includes reporting any evidence of physical injury, neglect, sexual or emotional abuse or financial exploitation.
