How To Apply
- Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in advance. Some scholarships are based on financial need, so it’s important to complete this prior to applying. Write down the Student Aid Index (SAI) number that you have.
- Apply online through the College of Nursing Scholarship portal.
- If you are a current applicant and have not yet been admitted to WSU, apply through this prospective student link.
- If you already have a WSU login, apply through this current student link using the orange “sign in with your school account” button.
- Fill out the application as you go. You only have one general application to finish. After you have completed your General Application, the system will automatically match you to all College of Nursing scholarships you are eligible for based on the information you provided in your application and your academic record.
- Double check that you have fully submitted. If you are unable to submit, check that all the sections show as completed.
- Decisions typically come out by the end of November (for Spring funding) and end of May (for Fall funding). You will be notified through your WSU email address.
- Scholarship funds are applied to your student account through the Bursar, typically during that first week of the semester.
- If you have outstanding tuition and fees the money will apply there first automatically. If you have additional money after disbursal, you will get that with how your Bursar account is set up (direct deposit or via a mailed check)
- If you have any trouble or questions, contact nursing.scholarship@wsu.edu
Tips and Information
- All applications are reviewed by our scholarship committee. Pay close attention to essay questions and be thoughtful and detailed in your responses.
- If you are experiencing financial hardship, make sure to thoroughly address that in your essay responses. The committee will consider that information when making scholarship award decisions
- If you already have financial aid coming in, you are still eligible for a scholarship. However, be aware that your financial aid status can be affected by the receipt of any College of Nursing scholarships. We have no control over this allocation. If you discover that a nursing scholarship negatively impacts your financial aid, you may choose to decline the scholarship. The WSU Office of Financial Aid can provide more information.
How to Support Scholarships
Many scholarships have been established by donors, friends, and alumni who are committed to the education of Cougar nurses. Because of their generous support, the College of Nursing provided more than $200,000 in scholarships last year.
