Who Should Apply?

Healthcare professionals who want to become nurse scientists and work as academic faculty, directors of research in clinical settings, interdisciplinary members of research teams, nursing leaders, and advanced clinicians. A prior degree in nursing is not required!


Research Foci

As an R1 research institution, WSU’s nursing faculty are engaged in innovative, funded research programs primarily focused on four core areas:

Pathway to PhD

WSU’s PhD program was designed to ensure successful progression through the curriculum and to prepare graduates to initiate a research program and launch their career.

  • Master’s-prepared students can finish the program between three and five years.
  • The Baccalaureate-to-PhD program typically takes four years.
