Two Career Paths:

Students enrolled in the program choose between one of two tracks:

  • Nurse Educator
    • A nurse educator focuses on teaching, curriculum development, and professional development across academic and clinical settings.
    • Where they work: Schools and colleges of nursing, teaching hospitals and health systems, community colleges or technical programs, staff development or education departments, or simulation centers.
  • Clinical Systems Leadership
    • Clinical Systems Leadership focuses on improving how care is delivered across systems, blending clinical expertise with leadership, data, and operations.
    • Where they work: Hospitals and health systems, clinics and ambulatory care organizations, public health systems, health technology or informatics teams, or quality and safety departments.

Workforce Placements:

  • Leadership roles in private, state, and federal health systems.
  • Faculty and clinical educator positions.
  • Administrative and quality improvement careers.

Who Should Apply?

If you are a BSN-prepared nurse with an RN license in Washington, Idaho, or Oregon and are interested in advancing your job options, this program is for you! We offer two MN options that will help take your career to new heights: Nurse Educator and Clinical Systems Leadership.

What You Can Become

  • Nurse Educator
  • Healthcare Leader
  • Change agent in clinical systems

Why It Matters

  • Nurse educators help train the next generation amid faculty shortages.
  • Nurse leaders manage teams and strategy in healthcare systems with strong wage potential.

How It Works

  • Hybrid coursework with up to (5) synchronous sessions per class, each semester.
  • Multiple campuses across Washington state.

A Graduate Student’s Perspective

Recent Master in Nursing graduate, Jenifer Brewer, MN ’25, shares how her learning experience was made possible thanks to the generosity of donor scholarships.

Program Details

  • Hybrid course delivery. Most classes meet approximately five times per semester via Zoom. The remaining course work is offered online through the Canvas. There are weekly participation requirements and homework throughout the semester. No on-campus classroom meetings.
  • This post-baccalaureate MN program is offered at WSU Spokane, WSU Tri-Cities, and WSU Vancouver.
  • There is a clinical placement coordinator who places students in the one direct-care clinical. Students will be responsible for finding non-direct care practicums with assistance from their instructors and faculty advisor. Placements are either in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho. Practicum hours must be completed in the catchment area of the campus of registration.
View map for counties covered by each campus.
