Abstract

It is essential to have patient safety and ensure quality of care through effective communication among interdisciplinary team. According to the evidence, if there is no clear communication at work, patients will suffer from medication errors, or they will receive inappropriate treatment and delays in the continuity of care that can harm their health. These are the standardized communication strategies that will help to resolve the problem of communication, such as using situation, background, assessment, recommendation, bedside shift reporting, daily interdisciplinary huddles, clear and organized communication system, and encouraging speak-up culture among all health care team members. These strategies help to identify patient problems and early recognition of medical treatments. This practicum project’s purpose is to analyze the messaging strategies with current best evidence research to communicate effectively, deliver effective care, achieve patient safety, and improve quality of care. This project was conducted using the most recent peer reviewed, nursing research, best practice guidelines and interviewed stakeholders to support the best methods of communication to use in healthcare settings. Based on the findings, this helps to develop and support practical infographic communication education. This standardized communication project helps to improve the continuity of work, avoid clinical concerns, improve teamwork and eliminate miscommunication. Evidence-based communication practices through staff education with the support of health care organizations will help to promote better patient health outcomes and support a culture of patient safety.
