Healing Hands, Creative Hearts

A free, family-friendly gathering in support of International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31.

Hosted by Overdose and Substance Misuse Prevention Coordinator, Amanda Dugger, the idea and name for the event came from a sleepless night a few years ago while reflecting on her personal experience with loss due to substance misuse.
“Healing Hands” is a chance for those affected by substance misuse, whether personally or through the loss of a friend or loved one, to honor their memory or find personal healing.
“Creative Hearts” is a nod to the creativity and artistic outlets that many people use throughout their recovery journey.
The event will feature:
- A resource fair
- Live performers
- Fun activities
- Panel with guest speakers, including:Kitara Johnson-Jones

Attendees will also be invited to create memorial lanterns in honor of loved ones. These lanterns will serve as symbols of love, remembrance, and resilience and will be displayed at the Central Library on International Overdose Awareness Day, with participants’ permission.
