Thank you for your interest in hosting a WSU Social Work student! Field Education is a vital part of a student’s learning in the BASW degree program. It is where students learn how to apply social work theories from the classroom to social work practice in the field.
We collaborate with a wide variety of agencies and organizations to provide educational opportunities for students. Agency Field Instructors work with students to develop a plan that outlines specific learning activities, provides regular supervision, and evaluates student progress throughout the placement.
- For sites requesting BASW students, the provided supervisor must have at least a BASW/BSW and 2+ years post-graduate experience.
- Sites that lack a qualified supervisor, may be eligible to receive WSU faculty support to provide the social work perspective in supervision. The site must be able to provide a Task Supervisor who is available on site to assign and monitor tasks that align with the learning agreement.
Students most often begin a field placement in the fall, however we are actively placing students from February to July each year. It’s never too early to start the process! We are always looking for additional field instructors and sites.
After we review the information, we will reach out with questions and/or additional steps including a meeting or phone call with someone from our team. If we do not have an Affiliation Agreement with your agency, we will walk you through that process as well.
