Applicants accepted to a College of Nursing program must matriculate in the semester in which they are accepted. However, rare circumstances may emerge that result in a deferral decision. Circumstances for which a deferral may be granted, include but are not limited to:
- A newly diagnosed and/or severe medical condition
- An unanticipated financial or family hardship
- A completion of military service or other time requirement related to service
Deferral Process
- Applicants who feel that they need a deferral decision should first connect with their academic advisor/coordinator for the campus they will be admitted to. That advisor/coordinator will review the situation, suggest potential resources, and evaluate if a deferral is the recommended action.
- If deferral remains the best scenario for the applicant, they will fill out the deferral request form.
- The deferral request is evaluated by the Center for Student Excellence (“CSE”) director. A decision is rendered, typically within a week of deferral request.
- Deferrals will be for up to one year.
- If approved, applicants will not need to reapply to the program, unless the deferral decision states otherwise.
- Applicants on approved deferral must regularly keep an eye on their WSU email for potential updates and requirements to return. They must also connect with their academic advisor/coordinator 3 months prior to the start of their return in order to secure their return.
