Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD)
Preparing the next generation of nurse scientists
The College of Nursing PhD program prepares future nurse scientists and researchers who are visionary leaders with a passion for contributing to evidence-based knowledge in health care. PhD students conduct research aimed at enhancing effectiveness of nursing in specific populations and within various health care settings. The program combines in-person educational courses with a distance/online format, allowing for flexible scheduling in the region, nation, and beyond. The college’s research faculty is accessible and committed to each individual’s success, assisting with grant writing and regular mentoring through establishing a career as a nurse scientist.
About the PhD Program
PhD students learn how to design, conduct, and manage research projects and to generate nursing knowledge directed toward changing nursing science and/or practice. Students develop nurturing and supportive relationships with other students in their cohort and with their faculty advisors, allowing them to be successful in their research contributions and educational experiences. Course work contributes to the development and completion of dissertation work and includes core areas of nursing science, research, education, and analytics.
