Job Description
BBH Psychiatric Services is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our dynamic healthcare team. You will collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with psychiatric disorders, while also promoting mental health wellness and recovery. Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessment: Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations, medical and psychiatric history reviews, and diagnostic assessments to formulate accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Medication Management: Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications as appropriate, considering patients’ individual needs, response to treatment, and potential side effects. Educate patients and their families about medication adherence, benefits, and risks.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Provide evidence-based psychotherapy and counseling services to individuals, families, and groups, utilizing various modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing to address psychiatric symptoms and promote recovery.
  • Collaborative Care: Work collaboratively with community psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans that integrate pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and psychosocial interventions. Participate in treatment team meetings to coordinate care and ensure continuity of services.
  • Patient Education and Advocacy: Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and community resources available for ongoing support. Advocate for patients’ rights and access to quality mental healthcare services, while also promoting destigmatization and raising awareness about mental health issues.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and management services to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crises, including assessment of suicidality, homicidality, and risk of harm to self or others. Collaborate with emergency services and crisis response teams to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including psychiatric assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and medication management documentation, in compliance with legal and regulatory standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the state of Oregon (strong applicants will also be licensed in the state of Washington).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in psychiatric-mental health nursing (e.g. inpatient psychiatric hospital RN employment, etc.).
  • Legal residency within the state of Oregon.
  • Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions for various psychiatric disorders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Commitment to cultural competence, diversity, and inclusion in mental healthcare delivery.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment, demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and clinical judgment.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and other healthcare technology platforms for documentation and communication.
