Dr. Marian Wilson to present webinar on pain symptom management

Associate Professor Marian Wilson will present a webinar on “Non-Opioid Symptom Management Strategies for Populations Prescribed Opioids,” sponsored by the American Society for Pain Management Nursing.

With a target audience of nurse practitioners or other advanced practice nurses, physicians, PAs, and pharmacists, the presentation will go over recent research highlighting symptom burdens and barriers to relief for adults prescribed opioids for chronic pain or opioid use disorder. Dr. Wilson will review best practice recommendations for non-pharmacologic pain management and offer ‎strategies healthcare professionals can adopt to address undermanaged symptom control that can lead to opioid misuse, overdose, and death.

Educational objectives:

· Review patient perspectives regarding symptom burdens when prescribed opioids ‎

· Recognize influences on patients’ choice of non-pharmacologic symptom management treatment options

· Identify assessment and communication strategies to assist shared decision-making in symptom management

Credit education information: The Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Society for Pain Management Nursing® is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
