Undergraduate Deferral of Admission

Applicants accepted to the RN-BSN or BSN program must matriculate in the semester in which they are accepted; however, rare circumstances may emerge that result in a deferral decision. Circumstances for which a deferral may be granted, include but are not limited to:

  • A newly diagnosed and/or severe medical condition
  • An unanticipated family hardship
  • A completion of military service

RN-BSN Student Deferral Process

  1. Applicants who feel that they need a deferral decision must send their deferral request to the campus academic advisor they have been working with for admissions, or to the Center for Student Excellence (“CSE”) director if they do not know who their academic advisor is.
  2. A decision is rendered, typically within a week of deferral request. Deferrals will be for up to one year. If approved, applicants will not need to reapply to the RNB program, unless the deferral decision states otherwise.
  3. Applicants on approved deferral must regularly keep an eye on their WSU email for potential updates and requirements to return. For example, applicants may need to reapply to their campus itself. That information will be given to deferred applicants.

Prelicensure BSN Student Deferral Process

  1. Applicants who feel that they need a deferral decision must send their deferral request to the academic advisor they have been working with for admissions, or to the Center for Student Excellence (“CSE”) director if they do not know who their academic advisor is. We recommend this be done as soon as possible once a student knows they need to defer.
  2. A decision is rendered, typically within a week of deferral request. Deferrals will be for one semester. If approved, applicants will not need to reapply to the BSN program, unless the deferral decision states otherwise.
  3. Applicants on approved deferral must email their academic advisor and the CSE Director of their intent to return by Nov 1st for Spring-start or by April 1st for Fall-start.
