Dr. Jae Kennedy named president-elect of disability research organization

A decades-long interest in issues relating to disability has taken Dr. Jae Kennedy to a leadership position with NARRTC, an organization that advocates for increasing the quality and rigor of applied disability research. Kennedy, professor and chair of the WSU College of Nursing’s Health Policy & Administration program, was named president-elect of the organization at its annual conference last week.

NARRTC is made up of current and former grantees of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation. The federal agency funds projects to generate new knowledge on disability and rehabilitation and to encourage the adoption and use of that work. Projects … » More …

Debbie Brinker credits students, fellow faculty for distinguished teaching award

Assistant Dean Debbie Brinker was named one of two recipients of the President’s Distinguished Teaching Awards for Instructors and Clinical Faculty – the first College of Nursing faculty member to receive the honor.

Brinker teaches professional development and senior practicum courses and is Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs and Community Engagement; she’s been on the College of Nursing faculty for 13 years.

Phyllis Eide Receives Mentor Academy Award for Excellence

The WSU Graduate School has awarded Associate Professor Phyllis Eide the 2017 Graduate School Mentor Academy Award for Excellence for her work in mentoring graduate students. Eide has been a faculty member in the College of Nursing on the WSU Spokane campus since 2002, and a member of the Graduate School Mentor Academy since 2009.

“When I found out I had won the award, I just about fell off my chair,” said Eide. “I am gratified beyond belief. It is one of the highlights of my year.”
