Behavioral Pharmacology
This line of research focuses on human laboratory investigations of behavioral responses to the consumption of different drugs. The outcomes of such studies vary significantly, but often these studies examine the relatively monetary reinforcement value of different drugs in addition to different psychopharmacological and pharmacokinetic outcomes.

Health-Related Behavioral Therapies
This area of research is related to the use of behavioral science principles to improve (often behavioral) health. These studies comprise treatment development projects focused on risk factors that are often related to later/earlier developed substance use disorders, e.g., effective management of chronic pain.

Addiction-Related Health Outcomes
Investigations within this area vary from small treatment analog investigations to Phase II-IV randomized clinical trials. Investigations within this category are generally designed to target a specific type of drug or alcohol use disorder as the primary outcome with several other health outcomes as secondary outcomes, e.g., severe mental illness symptoms.

Clinical Epidemiology of Mental Health and Drug Abuse and Alcohol Abuse
This area includes research that examines the epidemiology of drug and alcohol use, often as such use relates to other health outcomes. This area also includes research on the economics of system-level impact of drug and alcohol use disorders.

Pharmacotherapy Trials
Investigations within this area vary from advanced quantitative modeling to small experimental therapeutic investigations to Phase II-IV randomized clinical trials that are testing a novel medication, or an established medication combined with a behavioral intervention for co-occurring disorders, or within a novel population.
