Tobacco Cessation in WIC – The Baby and WE Program

WSU Office of Research
5/16/2014 – 10/2016

Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to examine the effect of a multi-pronged tobacco cessation program serving low income pregnant and postpartum women and their spouse/partners. This pilot study modifies a tobacco cessation education and testing program, titled Baby & Me, which was developed in New York State for pregnant and postpartum women, to include their spouse/partners. Innovations include addition of the partners, as well as biochemical monitoring of tobacco use and the awarding of financial incentives for ongoing participation in the study. The goal of the program is to help pregnant women and their spouse/partners quit smoking and maintain abstinence for at least three months postpartum, and to test the feasibility in a busy WIC clinic.
