Addressing Language Needs to Improve the Health Care Access and Utilization by Latinos in Washington (WA) State

Latino Center for Health, University of Washington

Abstract

This one-year project will strengthen a collaborative effort between investigators at the UW and WSU, the Interpreter Services department at Harborview Medical Center and the Washington State Coalition for Language Access (WASCLA) to develop a research plan to identify strategies to meet the healthcare communication needs of Latinos in WA State who have limited English proficiency (LEP). This research project will have additional and timely value as a resource for guiding efforts to ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate services aimed at improving population health services and outcomes for all LEP populations statewide.
