From Addy Hatch: WSU Marketing & Communications alerted me to this toolkit for scientists and researchers to help distill your work into something easy to communicate and easy to understand for the layperson. This was developed by a PR company, but they offer it free to download.

Called The Message Box, it has useful tips for communicating your work to different audiences, such as journalists, policy makers, legislators, and funders.
