PhD student awarded scholarship to Summer Institute in Statistical Genetics

PhD student Shawna Beese was awarded a 2022 Online Summer Institute in Statistical Genetics (SISG) scholarship from the UW Summer Institute of Biostatistics program. 

Beese, an RN, will take courses and be assigned a biostatistics mentor for ongoing support. She is a neighborhood researcher and uses GIS, and successfully proposed that The Institute of Biostatistics’ concepts are directly applicable to her research (macro-mapping), even though the institute content is geared toward genetics (micro-mapping).
