Performance:
Please also join her for a walking performance prior to the Q & A from 2:30 to 3:15 in the outside grass area by SAC in Spokane. If weather is inclement, she will perform in the SAC building itself.
Project:
Pandemica – the culmination of an accumulation project began as a response to the absurdity of toilet paper hoarding and the abandoning of paper masks in the street in the midst of a climate crisis. The dress is made of masks I wore in my capacity as a massage therapist over the past 2 1/2 years and the underskirt of empty toilet paper rolls I collected over the same time period. It has been a project of persistence and exploration of grief, loss, and isolation countered with pleasure, community, and a sense of belonging. Pictures of my walk in the dress are attached.
Biography:
Tracy Malikowski is currently a 3rd-semester student at the WSU College of Nursing. She grew up in Spokane and received her first bachelor’s degree in Biology & Psychology from the University of Oregon where she also fell in love with modern dance. This newfound love led her to New York City, where she lived for 10 years, to absorb all of the creative energy the city had to offer. Tracy has always been fascinated with movement and the human body and, in addition to being a massage therapist, has studied a variety of somatic modalities. She loves creating, crafting, ‘arting’, moving, and has dabbled in photography, jewelry making, and decoupage.
