Inclusive Excellence Forum: Communication and Cultural Lenses

Kate Hellmann is a faculty administrator and researcher in the field of international education and TESOL with fifteen years of experience. She has a Ph.D. in Education with a focus on International Education and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics. Hellmann directs WSU IP-International Student and Scholar Services which supports the internationalization of the Washington State University system by providing a comprehensive suite of aligned linguistic, regulatory, social and cultural programs to all international students and scholars to increase their success and retention in the WSU system. This includes teaching Academic English and Bridge programs, immigration and holistic advising, advocacy, career services and more for the WSU system. Together, the faculty and staff foster an inclusive and dwelcoming international community for students and scholars.
Hellmann conducts research on faculty experiences with international students in the classroom and beyond, international students and scholars, innovative teaching methodologies and integration of domestic and international communities in the context of global learning. Her research and practice focus on the internationalization of higher education in the United States.
