Pacific NW University $1.75M HRSA grant provides interprofessional learning opportunities for health science students across Central Washington
Since fall 2015, students at the college in Yakima have participated in several interprofessional events (IPE) in coordination with central Washington higher education partners: Pacific NW University of Health Sciences, Central Washington University, Yakima Valley Community College, Heritage University, and WSU College of Pharmacy in Yakima. Nearly 300 students participated in the first IPE event, where students worked in small groups to complete various patient assesments while learning about each others’ profession. In an additional event, 50 students took a bus trip to Seattle to visit several agencies involved in IPE learning activities. This work is supported by a $1.75M HRSA grant awarded to the Pacific NW University of Health Sciences in July 2015. This five-year grant is aimed at developing an interprofessional practice program covering primary care fields including pediatrics, internal medicine, family medicine, long-term care and rehabilitative care.
