More than 150 scholarship donors, students and faculty celebrated the 154 nurse scholar recipients recognized at the WSU College of Nursing 2013 Scholarship reception. In total, $266,979 was awarded to nursing students in the college’s undergraduate and graduate programs. This is a leap from the 2012 scholarship awards, where nearly $200,000 was given to 128 students.
Dean Emeritus and scholarship donor Dorothy Detlor was the keynote speaker and talked about the importance of supporting doctoral-level nursing students. Student speakers included Christine Grissom (BSN), Mason Vargas (BSN), Melissa Selzler (MN), and Sandra Wyrick (PhD), who spoke about their educational experiences related to the opportunities afforded by generous donors who believe in cougar nursing, research, and teaching.
Scholarship recipients were selected in a competitive process by the scholarship committee, comprised of Tina Bayne, Karen Malone, Debbie Brinker, and Katherine Choka, JoAnn Dotson, Robbie Paul, and Ruth Gellert Jackson.
