Quotation marks“The main comment we receive from our students is that our faculty and staff are very supportive, collegial, and attentive. Since we are on a Health Sciences campus, we work closely with colleagues in Pharmacy and Medicine, and our students take courses with other PhD students from other health science programs.”

Discovery Happens Here.

Enroll in the PhD in Nursing program and learn how to design, conduct, and disseminate research that will generate new knowledge directed toward changing nursing science, healthcare, and nursing practice. You will join a small cohort of nurse scholars, developing supportive relationships with these fellow students and faculty. Faculty and staff are accessible and committed to your success, and you will have regular research and academic mentoring through the establishment of your career as a nurse scientist. Approximately 66% of our students are funded through research/teaching assistantship, scholarships, or Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program awards.

In Class & Online

The program combines in-person course work with a distance/online format. Students need to attend classes at WSU Spokane for the first and last two weeks of the first summer semester. Remaining classes will be delivered over a live video conferencing system and are typically held on Thursday and Friday mornings and afternoons. Additional course work is completed online within specific time frames.

Faculty Mentors Engaged in Research

The College of Nursing is a research-intensive college, with many of our faculty members actively engaged in funded research programs and projects. Faculty members are accessible and committed to each student’s success, assisting with grant writing and the research process, providing regular mentorship.
