Through scholarship, integrative teaching at its best and excellence in distance delivery the College of Nursing graduates more entry-level nurses each year than any other educational institution in the state.

Innovate

Supporting faculty research and scholarship, advancing nursing's science base, and rewarding and retaining its best talent allows the WSU College of Nursing's Faculty to lead the next generation of highly qualified nurses.

Bridge

Providing nurses with the information and support they need for successful transition to practice. In an effort to support our greatest asset, our graduates, WSU is forging new ground with its e-network.

Dean's Notes

By any measure, 2008-2009 was a difficult academic year for Washington's research universities. The national economic downturn rippled first through the state and then through the universities. Throughout the spring the University's bottom line shifted as statewide budget forecasts worsened. Fortunately, our university has sound administrative and fiscal leaders. President Floyd and Provost Bayly engaged university stakeholders in candid and transparent dialouge. The result was nothing short of action oriented throughout the university.

I am proud of the leadership that was exercised during that time. I learned a lot about grace under pressure from watching the actions of faculty, staff, students and others that have fidelity to our University. more

Excellence in Research

To quote Charles Dickens:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us...."

While the research world of 2009 pales in comparison to the French Revolution I still find the  Dickens' quote compelling. There is a tremendous amount of opportunity today. Research dollars are flowing; discussions of health reform provide an opportunity to engange in meaningful conversations with policy makers about how our research evidence can guide them in deciding what aspects of our old systems should remain and what new additions are scientifically defensible (Best of Times scenario). more
