Native American Recruitment and Retention Program
Native Americans have a long and proud history in the Pacific Northwest. This history is celebrated at the Washington State University College of Nursing in Spokane and throughout eastern Washington State.
The Native American Recruitment and Retention program hosts Na-ha-shnee, a one-week summer camp for high school Native Americans who have expressed an interest in nursing. The purpose of the camp is to give the students a hands-on feel of what the nursing profession is like. They experience student life on campus, see a broad view of nursing, as well as job-shadow a nurse at a Spokane-area hospital plus a week of team-building experience. Na-ha-shnee is unique in that we bring in Native American nurses and health professionals to be role models and teachers.
